How Micro-Influencers Are Upending The Traditional Advertising Model

Not long ago, the internet was caught by storm when partygoers were left stranded in Miami and the Bahamas in dismal conditions after being promised the music festival of a lifetime by more than 400 bikini-clad models on social media. You could say the Fyre Festival went “up in flames” after it seemingly spent millions on models and nothing on actual planning or execution.


Let this be a lesson in worst practices of influencer marketing. Why? Because the models had no real knowledge of or affiliation with the brand: they were simply there for the paycheck (and free trip to the Bahamas). On top of that, they didn’t disclose that these were paid advertisements.
